First dance: what to know before stepping on the dance floor!
Here are my recommendations on how to approach your big day peacefully and with confidence:
1/ Watch your alcohol consumption before the dance ( 1 sip max!)
I know it can be hard to resist, or maybe you feel like you need a bit of liquid courage BUT I promise, you’ll feel better and more confident if you’re mindful of consumption ahead of your dance. This way you’re fully present AND you’re less likely to stumble during your routine.
2/ Dance on the actual floor of your venue the day of the wedding if you can
Locate your audience
Plan which way will you will be facing to start your routine
Where will you be entering the dance floor? What will your starting point be when the DJ/band starts the song?
Pro-tip! Dance in your actual shoes if possible so you know what traction you’ll have on the day-of
3/ Communicate with the band/ DJ about the song, make sure they have the exact version of the song you will dance to.
Let them know your ending pose if they need to fade the song and transition into something else.
4/ Move together in your outfits and shoes of the day.
( do the tricks you have to see if there is no wardrobe malfunction )
Tip! Practice with your partner in your shoes ahead of your big day.
If you want to practice your routine but don’t want your partner to see your outfit before the big day you can have someone stand in for your partner OR practice in a skirt with a similar silhouette as your outfit
Don’t forget to take your dress and outfits for a dance “test-run” before the big day. Wardrobe malfunctions are more likely on the dance floor so moving around in your outfits allows you to adjust your outfit and your routine so there’s no unexpected issues on your big day.
5/ Practice as much as you can before the D day.
More practice means you’ll feel more prepared and confident PLUS you’ll have muscle memory to rely upon when emotions and excitement arise.
listen to the song and visualize your routine
do the routine by yourself and together
every day for 10 min leading up to the wedding)
Don’t forget! I’m available if you need to send me a practice video or if you have questions on your routine before your big day!
6/ Right before you go on for your first dance :
Review/Mark your routine if you can
Trust one another , trust yourself, trust your body and the work you have done, you are as ready as you can be !
Breathe, smile, have fun, everyone is here for you anyway !
