  • Sophie is a delight to work with. She is a wonderful teacher and choreographer. We came to Sophie because we wanted to learn West Coast Swing, and we asked her to teach us the basic steps by creating a routine for us that incorporated them. We chose Reba McEntire's "Why Haven't I Heard from You" and Sophie got busy matching steps to music. As we learned the routine and our skills improved, Sophie was always supportive. After several months, she invited us to perform at various dance studios around Manhattan, and eventually to do a showcase at a big West Coast Swing competition in Newark. We have become totally addicted to West Coast Swing; in fact, we worry that we have forgotten how to ballroom dance! We will always be grateful to Sophie for making us love West Coast Swing.

  • Sophie is simply special and gifted. The first time I encountered Sophie was at a mixed ballroom dance event at the 92nd Street Y, where she immediately impressed me with her dance performance. A few months later, I joined her student-group class where her teaching skills and the ability to engage with her students surpassed my high expectations. I’ve taken many group-dance classes, and I can attest that Sophie's teaching is special. She manages to engage both individually and collectively while still being able to provide excellent instructions and maintaining an awareness of each student's needs, that is dressed in humor and warmth. She is flexible to the presenting needs, listening with equanimity while providing ample instructions. Her capacity to be present is a palpable experience. I’ve also taken private lessons with her which have inspired my learning journey and improved my dance movements. During these lessons, the student is her singular focus: attending to his or her needs, making observations, and thoroughly engaged in a friendly and professional manner. Her passionate devotion to the ongoing development of her students, equals her attention to her own self-development. In short, Sophie's devotion to dance, to movement, and to being present, is simply remarkable.
